Hi, I don’t think I ever figured this out with my CV 16 Expander. Can I use an external keyboard, say the Keystep, and play notes the way I can with a modular track? Thanks!

Yes with Midi you get also multiple polyphonic options then.

For some reason, I can’t get my keyboard to play my module (Akemie’s Taiko) when in a CV 16 track. I have no problem playing this module from a regular modular track, but I want the CV 16 to open up more modulation options. I have the tracks first and second destinations as Track CV, using the first for CV and the second for triggers (using “TT2”). Any thoughts on what I’m doing wrong? Thanks!

I assume you use midi.
You got to set up how Midi should affect the columns in the CV16 track setup. It will be able to generate Notes and envelopes which you can use as triggers.

Hi, Maybe I’m doing something silly, but I can’t for the life of me get it to work. I’ve never been able to do so with CV16 tracks (but have no problem with the same modules running as modular tracks). I am using MIDI and have the MIDI out of my Keystep going into the MIDI in of the I/O expander. Under “Input/Record Setup” I have MIDI Channel 4 set as Track 4 Record. When I have the Keystep on MIDI Channel 4, nothing happens. The Track CV 4 goes to Akemie’s V/Oct and the Track 4 Trigger to Akemie’s Trigger in (not using the CV16 for this part, only the modulation). I can play sequences just fine from here (I just want to be able to hammer out melodies). I’ve set up Track 5 as a modular track (with MIDI Channel 5 set as Track 5 Record) and when I take this track’s CV and Trigger and plug it in the Akemie’s, the Keystep plays it just fine. I hope that makes sense. What am I doing wrong?
Here's what I did:
Project Setting:
Track Assign: Track 7 -> CV16
Input / Record Setup: MIDI Channel 1 -> Track 7 Record (choose your preferred channel)
N3rd Menu:
Track Setup: Record Voices -> 3 + 3Env
Then I go into the Pattern Screen, and SHIFT+RECORD
When I now play notes and chords on my KeyStep Pro I see columns 1-3 fill with notes and columns 4-6 fill with Envelopes.
What are you doing?
I have yet to understand why all 3 columns are filled with modulator 8, i.e. the values that appear are ^80, ^81 and ^82 but that is a different question (I had thought one modulator per note column but possibly my understanding as to how these work is wrong).
Kind regards,
Michael
I think you miss to set up which columns to be involved for recording. You do that in the track setup of the CV16 track. -> record voices
Hi, thanks for your thoughts. I’ve been caught up with work, so was on a long break from the modular. Now back in a flow. I’ve updated to the latest firmware/beta (1.25 A).
Michael, I tried exactly that, but no luck. I have track 3 assigned to CV 16. Under “Track Setup” I’ve tried all combinations, including “3+3 env” but when I play my keystep, no sound plays. When I enter values directly in the pattern, it plays just fine. I want to be able to play live and record this though. I have the first two lanes assigned to TCV so I can enter a note as well as a trigger. The third lane is Track Modulation and the remaining three of the six are CV outputs 1, 9 and 2.
Now, when opposed to the CV 16, I create a plain modular track, then I can hear my sounds just fine. But, a problem I’m having now, is that I can’t record my input….
So, to be more specific, I’ve created a modular track 5 and plugged the CV out from track 5 into my BIA module, as well as the trigger out into the same module. When I play on my keyboard, I can hear the sounds just fine (unlike when I was using the CV 16, when I hear nothing). Under setup, “Input/Record Setup,” I have MIDI Channel 5 going to Track 5 Record. I play notes on the keyboard and hear notes on my BIA. Yet, when I hit shift record, nothing records. I have “Midi Data Input” set to on.
In contrast, I can record just fine on my MIDI tracks. I felt like I could record modular tracks in the past, but it’s been some months, so not sure what’s happening. Thanks for any thoughts!
Thanks guys. I just realized I was recording without having hit play on the given pattern. Now it works to record note values, but I can’t record triggers and hence hear sound. I have the first two lanes set up as track CV and when entering in manually I use “TT2” in the second lane to create a trigger.

If you record like 3+3 then it would insert envelopes in the other fields which belong to the notes. You would need to connect these to your VCA then to get the sound.(And set up the envelopes of course) Else you could use them also as a kind of triggers if configured well.
