*This concerns the original Pro model, I don't know about the functionality of other models so you'll need to check*

(Again, this might be old news for Launchpad Pro users, but if not then you have another set of controls at your disposal for all kinds of functions).

...Continuing on with my exploration of the Launchpad Pro / Nerdseq integration, I wondered if I could also utilize the unused buttons on the left side / bottom?

The quick answer is YES you can! Bottom buttons output CC's 1~8 , and the side buttons CC's 10~80 on whatever channel you have currently selected.

This means there are effectively 256 "buttons" available with 8 usable at any time!
(n notes mode, the top left button is used for switching into scale mode so not available, but is available in control/fader modes).

Of course the mapping screen won't support that many, but this still leaves a huge amount of aditional control at your fingertips... and of course can be mapped to almost any function in and outside the Nerdseq: Triggering samples, switching elements on and off, toggling between settings on external midi devices... no problem. There is a massive amount of potential here.

The only real limitation is that the buttons themselves act as trigger types, so will only light up when pressed .
You can still use them as toggle types of course with mapping functions, but you won't have the visual feedback of them staying lit.

Hope this helps.
