I think the nerdseq manual has all the info you need!

Be sure you enable the midi out on the launchpad (i think it was the orange one right below in the grid.
And set it to programmer mode ( the latest RC sets it automatically to programmers mode)

Quick question from a launchpad outsider - I'm 100% hardware these days, so my interest in the Launchpad is entirely just for the Nerdseq sequencing.
Is there any reason to go for a Launchpad 3 over the original Launchpad Pro or MKII (assuming there was a Pro MkII)? I know the Pro series has explicit midi din outs, and the others demand USB... but is there a reason to not try to source one as cheap as possible? Seems the added features speak more to Ableton than Nerdseq, right??
Thanks you.

It is my understanding that the more expensive versions offer velocity and aftertouch. When you know you don't need that...
I'm facing the exact same decision and I guess I'll go for the version with velocity and aftertouch. If only for the added control should I ever decide to use it for actual playing...which I hope to do...

I recently played around with the launchpad mk2 and nerdseq and it's a really nice and handy feature!
I noticed one thing: it possible to enter patterns with C + Matrix for Midi and Sample tracks as well but there's no way back from there on the lauchpad?
On a normal CV track you just press Mixer (rightmost key on the top row) but this doesn't work if you entered a midi or sample track...
Very nice is the euclidian pattern switch in cv tracks though...

One more thing...
It would be nice if the screensaver could be deactivated with a button press on the launchpad.

are you guys using the older launch pads with a midi box with usb midi hosting?

It is my understanding that the status of all USB controllers with NerdSEQ (be it via a USB2MIDI converter or through some MIDI Interface via a computer or yet something else) is "not guaranteed to work".
Apparently there are configurations and setups that work while some don't. The delayed USB MIDI Expander was supposed to tackle these but Thomas wrote the other day that he can't source the controller chip used anymore. That translates into "delayed until further notice".
For me that triggered the purchase of the 2hp MIDI Expander - I'm not a SEGA controller guy
Since I had decided to buy the more expensive Launchpad (with 5 pin DIN MIDI connector) anyway my only complaint is the color...I'm mostly silver/gray panels...but 2hp at the side of my case is almost not noticeable
Kind regards,
Michael

It depends on the USB-Host device if it works with older launchpads. If it can work with the launchpad then it'll work with the NerdSEQ (supported launchpad types). The way through a computer is also always a solution.
As for the USB-Midi expander I am working on, they are some news. I could manage to get at least a batch of the needed microcontroller so that would probably not be in the way. But of course, I don't only want to make a simple USB-Host expander. So there is a lot more with this and it needs some changes also in the NerdSEQ to allow to use it all. The expander basics are all working so far, now it needs to be implemented properly (after the coming firmware release). Still need to make one more prototype before a possible production. But for sure, Video expander will be first.
