[SOLVED] unable to change note duration for MIDI entered values on MIDI track - emilng - 08-17-2021

Hi! When I try entering notes via MIDI to a MIDI track, whether via the step input or via recording MIDI, a note off value gets added after the original note. Even if I shift the note off location the note off behavior doesn't change.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Enable step recording for MIDI
2. Add a MIDI note onto a MIDI track and see that a note off gets added on the next step
3. Use the Shift+Down+Delete shortcut to move the note off further down
4. Start playback and hear that note gets cut off right after note start as if note off was never moved

1. Enable note recording for MIDI
2. Start recording and play a MIDI note onto a MIDI track and see that a note off gets added when releasing the controller key
3. Use the Shift+Down+Delete shortcut to move the note off further down
4. Start playback and hear that note gets cut off at the original recorded note off position as if note off was never moved

Is anybody else able to reproduce this behavior? Is there some setup that I'm missing? I'm on V1.24

Are you sure there's no KILL added on the FX lane? I've noticed you get KILL FX when you're doing MIDI recording, could that be the issue?

That was it! Thank you so much!

For some reason there's a kill command that gets added on FX 3. It only happens on the first row in any MIDI pattern whether you're doing live MIDI recording or step MIDI recording.

Be sure you don‘t have step and regular recording enabled.

If the note is being released before the next step then either a note off on the next step or a kill is inserted (if the note on the next step is not empty or if it is the last row)

Ah good to know. I think that's what was causing the kill to be inserted. With just step or regular recording enabled the kill is not getting inserted. Thanks!

So when we have regular recording set for a track on a particular MIDI channel we shouldn't have the same MIDI channel for that track act as a step channel, right?

You can have that. But if you are with the cursor on the note column and recording then it will fill in the values from both.
