SetUp + Scales
#1
Would it possible to explain what the SetUp section of Scales is for? I see you can change it, but as soon as you leave the screen, and then return it's always back to the 00 (or the Global setting). How do we work with this, or what is it's purpose?

Lastly, I'm still trying to figure out how to have a scale 'setup', and also put notes outside of that scale in the melody. As a simple example, if I want to have as a rule C mixolydian, but still put in 'B' natural in the pattern section (for one track), how do I do this?

Thanks in advance.

BTW, the only solution I've found (which is maybe your plan) is to add in a note - in this case set 40 in the track, add the B in the scale notes right column, and select Edit so that if I use Random only the Mixolydian scale with C as it's root is used. Could this be the answer to my question?

I don't know exactly which part of the setup you mean?

You can change the scale per track and if you want to have sometimes notes that shouldn't be in the scale then turn the scale off for that step and on again after that step.
The scale functions are very flexible and yes, if you choose for scale you get notes only in that scale, doesn't matter which note you choose.

Exactly, "You can change the scale per track and if you want to have sometimes notes that shouldn't be in the scale then turn the scale off for that step and on again after that step." But how do I do that (switch it on for one or more steps, and then off again)?

To be more precise, if that's useful, I have a piece where much of the melody is using C major. Then later (same track), I have a section where I'm using C7 (Mixolydian). To be more precise, I have a section where I'm using RN1 (range) for the notes, so I'd like to make sure they pick only notes from the C7 scale.

By the way, the 'SetUp' I'm talking about it the second line of the scale section: Global & SetUp.

I hope that makes more sense?

Thanks in advance.

The scale can be simply changed from the FX at any time for both global and tracks (CBPB) on any step.
The other one is also very simple:

Global is the current selected global scale.
With setup you can edit another scale which doesn't have to be the global selected one at this point. It is just to edit another scale without changing the currently global selected one.

So it is mostly flexibility without the danger that your current running sequence switches to another scale unwanted.

Okay, I understand now. So in fact the SetUp is a sort of short cut to get 'nearly' what you want, and you can change it from there (or not).

As for the CBPB, I'll check that out - if I understand correctly, it's on page 35 & 37 of the manual - CBPB + AXX or BXX.

Thanks that should do the trick.

It is just so the current selected scale is not affected if it is not the same. You can always press SHIFT+OK then on the global part to set the global to the current setup one.
Just see it as an editor for something that is not selected right now.

Also SHIFT+DELETE on the setup part will reset the scale to its default values.
