How likely is CV input expander to ever be made? Perhaps a 2 or 4hp expander which provides an additional 4 inputs? With a ton of possibilities in Mappings, I'm now finding that i could use at least 4 more cv inputs.
CV input expander?

But I understand that the CVM8 from expert sleepers seem to work well via I2C which means 8 additional inputs!

You just change the little switches on the CV8M to put it in i2c mode, connect the little cable to the expander (it's included!) and route your signals to where you want in the nerdseq interface. It's great! 8 cv inputs in 4hp!

I got a CVM-8 and tried hooking it to my Nerdseq Multi-IO via I2C but could not get it to work. I had gotten my FR8 faderbank connected via I2C so was expecting to succeed. @rubberband, I was wondering if you had any recommendations. On the CVM-8 I set the dip switches to 1101, which is the same as 1001 that you used but is for 0-10V instead of just 0-5V. I kept the pull-up resistor switch on the CVM-8 to off and didn’t make any other changes on the CVM-8. I connected the CVM-8 I2C wires to port B on the Nerdseq Multi-IO and made sure that the wires were connected properly (gnd-gnd). I then configured on the Nerdseq the IC2 communication for channel B to be 16N->NS 17-32 so that the Nerdseq is a follower and should receive data from the CVM. I mapped port 17 so that I could see what its current value is. And then I connected a clock input to input 1 on the CVM. But both the CVM and the Multi-IO module communication LEDs never flash, and the Nerdseq Mapping page always shows a value of 0. @rubberband, how did you configure IC2 on your Nerdseq so that it worked? I looked at the CVM-8 manual again and it appears that it uses address 0x32 (50) only when it is a follower. The default config for the CVM-8 is as a leader, which is what I want, and it is supposed to send I2C to address 0x31, which is the existing address for the Nerdseq. Therefore I think it should work.
I searched around a lot and it appears according to @os from Expert Sleepers that several other people have run into the problem where the CVM-8 doesn’t comunícate at all, apparently due to the standard preset configuration not being loaded when the module was manufactured. https://www.modwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=259071 This corresponds to the behavior I noticed today where the transmit LEDs on the CVM-8 never lit up even when I tried using midi. Therefore it appears I need to try reconfiguring the CVM-8 by connecting my laptop to it using midi, and to do that I need the Expert Sleepers midi breakout module, which I have ordered and should receive within a week. I’ll let you all know how this turns out.

Turns out there was indeed a configuration problem with my brand new Expert Sleepers CVM-8. Once I got the CVM-8 configuration fixed (which took quite a bit of effort) the it worked really well with the NerdSeq.
So that others won't have to go through the same trouble I created a video on how to get the CVM-8 working with the NerdSeq, even if its configuration is incorrect. https://youtu.be/FiHjRIO67Vo

Would you be open to the idea if we make a partition to see if there is enough interest? Not expecting anything of course, but maybe there's a lot of interest in this.

I don’t think I will ever make an input expander. The cvm-8 works well and you could connect 2 of them and probably more if there is any demand.

For my needs, the cvm-8 is not a solution as I work with a compact case for playing live and the cvm-8 won't fit. Will settle for 4 inputs ? |
