Send midi start and stop message
#1
Hi!

I have tried to search the manual and forum for this but can not find it.
Does the nerdseq send midi start and midi stop messages when I start / stop the sequencer?
I use the new trs-a midi expander.

Thanks!

Yes it does if Midi-clock-out is enabled.

Start and Stop and Clock belong to each other with Midi.

Question related to midi start message, I'm posting here to avoid too many new similar threads, if it's ok.
Got the midi expander yesterday, and everything is working as expected, except one feature:
  • Nerdseq receiving midi in -> When I press play on my external machine/DAW, Midi start message forces the Nerdseq to play every patterns in the selected row, or the next one if a track is empty.
It's a cool feature, but do we have a parameter to change this behavior, to start the sequencer only, no pattern, or just the one selected?

I didn't find any info in the manual or in the forum, sorry if it's something obvious.

Put a row of blank patterns in. If you want to start a single pattern but keep all the other rows in sync, fill the others rows with blank patterns.

When I start a new composition, I typically just fill out large portions of the sequencer screeen with unique blank patterns and then delete a row if I need to make an island.

To add to what Karlo was suggesting:

(Though with the 24PPQN with run/stop clocking rather than MIDI) I often use first-row patterns for “setup” of sorts. One bar long, no actual triggers/gates in them, but setting up initial output values (especially on CV 16, but also more generally for things like moving -5V/+5V outputs to 0V,) setting FX that I wish to see carry through other patterns, etc.

Just figured I might suggest it so that you’ve got an option to keep that first row from feeling wasted. Wink

It starts where the cursor is and with a different behaviour when shift is being hold on start.

If there is nothing (and nothing up) where the cursor is (and the row) then the track are not started, but the sequencer is running

Ah I noticed the different behaviors this afternoon depending on the cursor position and patterns above or below the cursor.
The empty patterns are also a good idea with fx only. Thank you everyone!

I cannot get midi out on the midi expander to start stop reset the clock in my bitbox mk2. The BB recieves start stop fine from Pam's expander and from my launchpad pro. Midi clock out is set to on in settings - anything else I need to do? Thanks.

No nothing you need to do. When you press shift+stop then the nerdSEQ stops and sends out a midi stop message.
Are you sure you configured the bitbox well?
