(This post was last modified: 09-14-2021, 04:53 PM by vidret.
Edit Reason: my life story that lead up to this suggestion isn't relevant
)
1) One should be able to preview samples when pressing "OK" when the cursor is on note/sample/volume columns, not just the note column.
Adding new samples should be reserved for the empty slots in the sample list and a "Load sample" selection (after the sample list but before the OSC sounds perhaps)
2) In the Load sample menu screen the "ABORT" button should take you back to where you were (most probably pattern screen if you accidentally pressed "OK" on the sample column)
3) When coming back to menus like the automator and envelope have them be the same place we were at last time (just like the setup/project menu)
4) In the automator screen there should be no extra step for entering the parameters on the LFO compared to the envelope (the cursor marks the parameter window and you have to move away from it on the LFO, on the envelope it's already there)
5) Add the big bar sliders that show values that the modular track setup screen has that the audio track doesn't have for the same sort of values (glide, volume etc). The space is the same so no issue there.
((6) I have not delved deep into this one, so I'm not sure if I should mention it, but there's some inconsistency in where you can find stuff between the modular track values/setup screen and the sound track values/setup screen - I have no conclusive suggestion here, but perhaps making sure the same/similar values are on the same screen on each would be good for consistency.)
I searched and couldn't find similar posts, but I could've missed them
As always, it's possible there's functionality I have overlooked, please do point that out for me in such case.

Hi vidred,
I think you are raising valid points and those workflows probably could be improved. However I had to read through it 3 times and am still not convinced I've understood everything you propose. I think this is partly because you have mixed several suggestions into one big lump. Maybe you could split it up into separate tasks like (partly making this up):
1) In screens remember the last position. This should be for screens so-and-so (here comes a list)
2) In a sample pattern (or maybe do that everywhere - don't know) add the preview/prelisten function to the following key presses/situtations (here comes a short and concise list)
3) ...
I hope you don't feel offended (no offence intended). To me a write up like the above is easier to process and also easier to implement. Plus it helps when discussing things.
Kind regards,
Michael

You're right, I was very tired when I wrote this and wanted to give a reason for these changes being made, so I wrote down the whole journey. I'll edit it down to the essentials. Thanks!

I think I understand most of the points and let me get into it:
Quote:1) One should be able to preview samples when pressing "OK" when the cursor is on note/sample/volume columns, not just the note column.
Adding new samples should be reserved for the empty slots in the sample list and a "Load sample" selection (after the sample list but before the OSC sounds perhaps)
To start with the last, I can't simply move a new 'value' I between those. Also I think it is not an option to make it nearly impossible for people who never used it to load samples. Using OK on empty samples might be an option, but what if all sample slots are filled. Then it is not easy possible again to remove/replace samples. I think OK on notes is the best option since this is used also for all other track types. On these there is also no pre-listen if not on the note.
Quote:2) In the Load sample menu screen the "ABORT" button should take you back to where you were (most probably pattern screen if you accidentally pressed "OK" on the sample column)
Yep, on my cleaning up list.
Quote:3) When coming back to menus like the automator and envelope have them be the same place we were at last time (just like the setup/project menu)
Seems also OK. Though I remember I didn't do that in the first place because of some side effects I can't remember right now
Quote:4) In the automator screen there should be no extra step for entering the parameters on the LFO compared to the envelope (the cursor marks the parameter window and you have to move away from it on the LFO, on the envelope it's already there)
Not sure what you mean here?
In the automator screen the LFO vs the envelope settings? Or the automator screen vs. the envelope screen?
Quote:5) Add the big bar sliders that show values that the modular track setup screen has that the audio track doesn't have for the same sort of values (glide, volume etc). The space is the same so no issue there.
Aah the big sliders...which are very slowing down the overall performance ;-)
But they are no sliders in track setup screens. Only in current values screens...which brings us to your next request:

Actually that is kind of a tricky thing as they are 2 screens you refer to. The track setup screens and the current values screens. The issue is here that it is difficult to define which has to be on which without missing one plus not have like half of the values in both screens. For the sample screens these are kind of settings for that particular sample/audio/combination and without you couldn't re-create the sounds.
Also I tried to avoid any scrolling on the current values screens but adding all the values here as well might add the need for it (and so you don't have an overview to the most important current values)
PLEASE use the search function if something have been asked or discussed before.

How about pre-listen on all columns, load new sample on empty spot in list and beyond that you load via the load sample menu?
This might be personal, but after having set up the samples I just want to play the thing like crazy, I suppose others perhaps switch samples more often.

Sorry, I meant both of them in the automator screen. Pressing OK on an LFO or an envelope does different things.

ahhhhhhh no don't add them then!! in fact, remove the other ones too

Yeah I realized that, which is why it was only a mention. I think you have put considerably more thought into them than I did when I noticed the same values weren't always in the same place.
excellent response, as always.

I have to bring this first point about pre-listening to samples again, it’s a bother to move to the sample column, switch samples, move back to note and press OK only to find out it’s not what I wanted.
Could a possible solution be OK for pre-listen and SHIFT+OK to change samples?

I think the other way around might be something possible. I don’t want to change the OK to get to the sample load menu since this is used for many other situations. I got to check if Shift+OK generates any side effects
