Release Candidate Firmware V1.25 RC5
#81
I'm not very familiar with old school trackers so there are probably hundreds of techniques lost on me when working with this thing, I wouldn't ask you to change classic workflows on a whim.

What would be the difference in seeing the "GATE ON" vs the current implementation? Does the current auto-gate do something different than setting a GATE ON for each note input?

I realize this discussion is better suited elsewhere, but it arose here. Will keep this thread clean after this Q.

I'm not sure I understand, what you are after. In particular I don't understand what you mean by "GATE ON" as opposed to the current implementation.

Do you mean an "Auto Fill-In Gate" on/off as an editor convenience setting? [would be more complex than the Trigger Fill-In because you only know the gate length after you've entered the next note, but certainly doable]

Or is it something else?

I think a filled in trigger with FE is meant as 'Gate On'.

That is nothing I will do. You set your prefered workflow only once and then leave it like this. It is not that it is being changed continuously.
Also as for the 'ghost' gates that are described. Even though the Autogate is something trackers always had. This is also common for all kind of sequencers (maybe excluding typical modular ones). Note On until the Note is Off again. This applies for a piano roll and many more and also clasically for trackers.
So this option will stay and additionally you can set up to not use it and go for automatic triggers or totally manually fill in gates/triggers.

See this is what makes me think I'm missing something, I thought I was posting a pretty clear question.

If I have auto-gate set to on and insert a note I will get a droning note until I turn it off somehow.
This acts exactly like inserting a note with auto-gate off and then manually inserting my own "GATE ON" in the trigger column - in my experience.

Do these differ in any way?

edit: didn't see XOR reply above until posted.

I'm gonna assume the auto-gate is just a way of controlling everything from the note-column, but I still don't see how anything would change if I also saw a gate-on in the trigger column when I did it. I think what weirds me out in combination with the modular workflow is that we're actually sending CV signals out of the trigger channel but it's not represented, you have to think of two columns.

Triggers and the auto/gate differ slightly. If you would put in another note it wouldn't retrigger the gating again if filled into the trigger. And they are some more details which can be set up.
And turn the gate off somehow, there is the note off for:

I think we should move this to another discussion as it is not related to the Release Candidate anymore.

Thumbs Up
With your admin powers this whole side-quest starting from my confusion on page 7 could be removed/put somewhere else, thanks for taking the time

Yeah, apologies for indulging in this. I'm always curious about naming conventions, taxonomy, and UX decisions and I wanted to make sure I understand what the distinction between the two options was. In my opinion the only change I'd propose is to make it more distinct in the documentation (one adds an actual trigger in the gate column, the other does not).

This could be its own thread, yes.

Hey there. I wanted to have the release already ready but I am too busy preparing everything for superbooth. So that will be after Superbooth (and the involved hangover ?) then.

Where you can help me is to provide me some of your patterns which I could use at superbooth. So far I didn’t have time to prepare my own. So if you like to help me out with that, please send me a project or more to my email info@xor-electronics.com and I might use it if it makes sense in my setup.

Thanks already, and keep your eyes open for what I will bring to Superbooth!

SHIFT + right is not working on the gamepad but works on the panel keys. I mentioned this before, it appears to still be broken. I know you said you cannot reproduce this. If I got into the gamepad mapping, when I press the right d-pad button, I am seeing the RIGHT arrow flash on the screen, so I know the NerdSeq is seeing my controller and my controller is working correctly. Also this is a brand new out-of-the-box licensed Sega controller, not a knock-off, and not used. Holding C + left or up or down all work as intended but C + right does not do anything in the pattern edit screen. Navigation via the right d-pad is fine.

Currently the only way I can increment a value in the editor is to use the shift+up to jump it up say an octave, then use shift+left to back it down to what I wanted. Not ideal workflow.

If I press C + right on the sequence screen, it moves to the next line instead of incrementing the pattern.

Should I try another gamepad?
