stupid question - how to use expanders?
#1
Hi all.  I know this is a dumb one, but I've read the manual and I still don't understand how to use the expanders.

How do I set a note or channel to output to the More CV or send the trigger to More Triggers?

Can you set more than one note on a step with the More CV?  I saw a mention of poly sequencing but I don't understand how.

How do I access the drum matrix for More Triggers?

Normally I'm not one for manuals but the section on the expanders is sorely lacking.  I don't see explanations of any of the features described, just examples of cool things you can do, but no instructions on how to actually do them!

I read the threads for More CV and More Triggers and it didn't help.

Can someone baby step me through using the expanders?

Manual V1.24_1 page 83 ff (Track Assign Screen). Start there and things should become clear.

OK that helped some, I get how to assign the expander to a track.  How do I pick which output of the expander is being used?  is that a per-step setting?

You didn't really look, did you?

I suggested you read page 83 ff. On page 84 starts the section about the Track Setup Screen(s). All the various track types are explained one after another. Page 87 starts MIDI, page 88 starts Trigger 16 and page 89 starts CV16.

I did indeed look.  I've read the whole manual.  I'm sorry, I already explained that I am "stupid" so please explain to me how do you pick which output the track goes to?

I'm looking at More CV on pg89.  It has options for:

-track clock
-transpose
-random fx
-record voices (with destinations, but this is only for record right?)
-glide
-modulation
-envelope
-lfo
-firmware
-get calibration

Which one sets the output?

Well, in my copy of the manual on page 90 (which is the continuation of page 89) in line 10 ff it says:

Quote:Destination 1..6: Defines the destination for the columns 1..6. The following destinations are
available:
EXT CV1..CV16: the CV outputs on the expander.
TRACK CV: The CV output on the NerdSEQ of the current track.
LOC CV1..CV6: The NerdSEQ CV outputs 1..6.
TRACK MOD: The MOD output on the NerdSEQ of the current track.
LOC MOD1..6: The NerdSEQ MOD outputs 1..6.

In case you have not yet tried to look at the Track Setup on your NerdSEQ, here is how you get there:
On the Sequence Screen move the cursor onto the track that you assigned the CV16 to. Hit SHIFT+AUTOMATE for the Nerd menu. At the very bottom you find "Track Setup". Select that (by hitting OK). On the Screen that is shown rows 7-12 are labelled "Destination 1", "Destination 2", ... "Destination 6". Initially they are assigned to "EXT CV1", ... "EXT CV6". Move the cursor onto one of those rows. SHIFT+LEFT/RIGHT/UP/DOWN change the value.

If you had tried the Track Setup on the NerdSEQ, you would have found that. Not?

Thank you for explaining how you get to it.  This morning I am not in my studio so, no I do not have the Nerdseq in front of me, but when I was playing with it yesterday I didn't see this.

I really appreciate you being so friendly and patient.
