Harp / Guitar Strum
#1
Hi all. I had a question about what would be the best way to program natural sounding strumming, like that of a harp or guitar. Would that be to create a Table with slight BPM changes on each trigger step?

I spoke with Charlie (Teletype sample below) and he said someone was maybe working on a strumming arpeggio concept for the Nerdseq and was wondering if anyone has come up with a natural sounding method. Obviously his sample is with Rings and the effect works really well.

Cheers!

* EDIT I've actually figured it out, as noted above with Tables and BPM FX

I tried something like this with Mutable Elements and wasn't happy with the results. I don't have a Rings to test with, but I wonder if it depends on using the sympathetics strings mode of Rings. Or maybe my NerdSEQ chops aren't good enough! I'd be interested to hear more details if someone has a nice method for simulating strumming.

I wouldn't do it with BPM FX since this would change also the speed of your whole project.
But tables is a good starting point. And i would probably create multiple tables with the same content for a used chord but each with different speeds maybe.
And these tables are selected then randomly.

You can also call another table from within a table which could add another variation.

I tried using Table Groove to speed the first few plucks and slow later ones. At the time I didn't realize that Tables would reset the pitch to the base note if there wasn't an entry in between transpositions. Now I know that, I will give it another try and see if it sounds better. Selecting multiple tables randomly is a great idea.
