Disable Clock and Reset outputs
#1
Hi,

I know this might sound weird, but would it be possible to have an option that disables the continuous clock output (Settings clock output Y/N) and the reset output? Since I can use SPFX to pulse, reset, set both the Reset and the Clock outputs, I would like to take advantage of those outputs without the continuous clock ticking. It would allow me to decide when and where I want to clock other devices, using SPFX, without having to lose any of the gate or expander outputs.

Just a small idea that should be easy to do, I hope.

For what it’s worth, it doesn’t sound too weird to me. Smile

I currently send 24 PPQN and run/stop out of mine, but I also use some Trigger 16 lanes for clocking and resetting additional things, so I can definitely see the value in your suggestion.

You could achieve the same by sacrificing a trigger output and a CV controlled switch (or a CV16 output, depending on whether your switch reacts to level or pulse). I use them for all sorts of dynamic repatching.

Fair, but if you only have the main module and no expanders you'd lose one of your precious outputs instead of taking advantage of one of the two outputs that are already there.

I would not have made the suggestion if the SPFX options to Pulse the clock and the Reset (or even Set either!) weren't already there. The way I see it these special effects kinda suggest that you should be able to utilize the Clock and Reset ouputs in unique ways, which would be even more unique if you had the option to disable the continuous clocking or default reset.

I wasn't trying to advocate against your proposal. I just tried to show alternatives utilizing Trigger16 and/or CV16.

Of course you have a valid point when you have no NSA.

FWIW I think the NerdSEQ is too powerful and has too many features for the outputs of the main module only. I highly recommend getting at least one of CV16 (IMO a mandatory module) and Trigger16 (IMO obligatory if you wish to use external drum modules as opposed to the sample based drums of the Audio tracks).

Oh, don't worry, we're just having a discussion. I might be new to the forum but I'm not new to product design and I try to avoid being bundled with feature creepers which I'm sure abound around a feature-dense module such as the Nerdseq.

Adding new features is hard, as it needs to take into account UI, UX, current features, and future ones.

What I was merely trying to point out with my post above was that I had tried to balance things out before making a suggestion.

Haha, that's amazing. Looking forward to trying it out! It will be fun being able to start/stop/clock devices using these outputs. It feels appropriate.
