Using DINSync freezes NerdSEQ
#1
Here's my setup:

Ableton Clock Out via Silent Way (24ppqn) -> ES-9 -> Pam's New Workout -> NerdSEQ Clock in

Pam is working fine, and I'm able to clock and start/stop a connected Metropolix from it as well. I use two Pam's outputs, one for clock and one for Run and I'm running those to Clock in and Reset.

I get at best a couple of start/stop iterations before it stops working - the screen is unresponsive but the clock in light still illuminates and shuts off when clock is running/stopped. I have to power cycle my whole modular rack to recover.

I've searched for other forum threads and can't find anything that specifically addresses this. I did read some things about adjusting buffer size and levels in Ableton, and I tried that, but it doesn't help. My assumption is just that I'm doing something wrong.

Hey, I am not aware of this being an issue. Which Firmware are you using on the NerdSEQ?

Actually the input clock lights are directly hardware connected, so they are not an indicator if the firmware is still running.
They are no known issues currently with being synchronized externally. There used to be one which has been fixed many versions ago.
PLEASE use the search function if something have been asked or discussed before.

I'm using 1.25A

Hey I think I fixed it, but not 100% sure how. I reseated the nerdseq, reflashed the firmware again, started from a blank pam preset, repatched everything, and double checked every setting in the whole chain. I've been able to stop/start it consistently now for 20 minutes. Magic Big Grin

Hmm...still doesn't sound right in my ears :-)
If it happens again and there is a way to reproduce it (maybe also project related), let me know.

You were right. I encountered this problem again. Strangely, it appears that now if I start ableton while the NerdSEQ's screensaver is activated, the NerdSEQ freezes.

I am 100% convinced I am doing something wrong, so I uploaded a private youtube video with a walkthrough of the issue. Any help pointing out where I've gone wrong would be appreciated.

Hey, thanks for the video. I will check that out. Just one question. Did this happen also without the screensaver before or was it always with the screensaver only?

I don’t think you do anything wrong. And if I can reproduce it with the screensaver then I can solve the issue easily for sure. I will check it tomorrow.

Previously it was sort of random, it would always freeze after a few play/stop cycles and since I had my screensaver set to 1 minute, it was hard to tell.

The only change from before was setting Pam's "Run?" to "Y" (from "RS" previously) and setting Silent Way Run Type to "Run" (from "Start/Stop")

I also just got done letting it sit for an hour or two with the screensaver deactivated to see if it's a memory leak or something, but it works fine.

I don’t know anything about pams, but it shouldn’t freeze even with the worst signals (what I don’t expect of course).

OK, i can reproduce it but only when the screensaver is on. Without the screensaver I can't reproduce it. Anyway, lets go bug hunting....
