Clone pattern below (combo)
#1
I would like the ability to clone a pattern directly below instead of in place. This could be done with a button combo that I do not believe is in use:

hold SHIFT+DOWN then press OK

The new cloned pattern would appear below the original pattern - which would stay where it was - and the cursor would move down too so you can enter the new pattern if desired.
If there is already a pattern existing there, then it would just be overwritten (instead of the original pattern being overwritten in place which is what bugs me about the current behavior).

And the regular cloning behavior would still be available too. The combo could be disabled for those that don't want to accidentally use it. Blush

I would still love to see this implemented if it wouldn't be too hard Smile

I would also like this functionality.

As it is now, if I want to clone a pattern, but keep the original pattern where it is, I have to copy the original pattern, paste it somewhere else, then clone the pasted pattern.

Another way is to create a new pattern in the desired location, move through all the existing patterns until I get to the pattern I want to clone, then clone it.

Is there an easier way to clone a pattern but keep the original pattern in the original location unchanged?

When I'm working on a pattern and then want a clone directly below I hit the following keys:
CURSOR DOWN
SHIFT+RIGHT
SHIFT+LEFT
SHIFT+OK

The same pattern basically works for any other pattern in any other place no matter how "far away" from the original. Especially the SHIFT+LEFT/RIGHT (and UP/DOWN) are used everywhere else and are part of my fingers muscle memory (meaning: happen w/o me thinking).

Having a special shortcut for the case when the clone is supposed to be directly below the current pattern and using another key combo for all other cases kind of defies the benefit of muscle memory.

Are you guys sure this would enhance overall workflow?

Just my thoughts,
Michael

Yea I suppose I have a different workflow than others, my cloned patterns are directly below like 90% of the time though.

"SHIFT+DOWN+OK" would be a lot faster than "CURSOR DOWN, SHIFT+RIGHT, SHIFT+LEFT, SHIFT+OK" for sure.

Sometimes I like to take a drum pattern for instance, and clone it 3 times immediately so that I have 4 separate copies - basically creating a larger 256 step pattern.
Its a way to prepare for a technique I like to use to introduce subtle variations on a repeating pattern (typically at the end of every 4th bar).

In this instance, with the shortcut it would simply be to hold SHIFT+DOWN on the pattern, and press OK 3 times. Boom.

Now there would be the larger 256 step pattern, and I could go in at anytime later and create variations.

Of course if I want to clone something anywhere else at at all, the current behavior still makes most sense, which is why it would be very nice to have both options available.

Hmm. For "SHIFT+OK+DOWN" I probably would need two hands as I'm not good at three key shortcuts with one hand. All the two key shortcuts I do with one hand (and via muscle memory). Your mileage may vary.

When you say "a lot faster" you mean 1 second (or maybe 2 seconds)?

When we go with 2 seconds and you create 30 clones of this type in a project that does indeed save quite some time... Wink

Just out of curiosity and because my workflow seems to be different:
When I create clones and copies and basically work on the structure of a project the most time is spend by me thinking about what to do, i.e. I have periods where I just sit in front of the NerdSEQ looking at the sequencer screen contemplating, maybe listening and am not typing away.
Do you have breaks like that as well?

Hi, my apologies for bringing up this feature yet again, I don't enjoy being the pesky one..

Anyhow, I am finally getting some time to use the new firmware and really appreciate this feature being added!

It works slightly differently than expected though. I was hoping that when the combo was used the cursor would follow to the new pattern.
In this way, while holding SHIFT+DOWN you could press OK as many times as needed to create larger pattern chains - this is where I feel combo really would become a time saver. Hopefully the example below illustrates what I am trying to achieve.

EXAMPLE:
Cursor is on pattern "01". While holding SHIFT+DOWN press OK 4 times. The cursor would move down to the new cloned pattern each time OK was pressed.

..now there would be a larger chain of 4 patterns that are all separate clones of the original "01", and the cursor would now be on the newest pattern "04":

01
02
03
(04)

In a live playing situation, it would sound like pattern one was repeating until going into one of the clones at a later time to change just a couple details Smile

When doing the combo just once it would be convenient as well because you could immediately enter the new clone..... like simply doubling the length of a single pattern real quick.
