More Video I/O vs ATEM Mini
#1
Hello, Nerds!

Got something for you to ponder, and it doesn't seem to be a common thing; I have the Video I/O expander, which I run HDMI to a PC monitor, TV, or camera mounted monitor all capable of displaying 4k, and the NerdSEQ UI shows up brilliantly (tho very large Smile )

However, when I take that proven-functional More Video I/O HDMI into the Blackmagic ATEM Mini (the $295 model), and the ATEM HDMI Out to the same monitors above, but the More Video I/O does not appear to stream to the ATEM device. The ATEM device is of course working as well, because I have a camera hooked to HDMI In 1, and I can see my pretty face clearly. The NerdSEQ Clone --> is sent to HDMI In 2, and nada... black screen.

Here are the tech specs for the ATEM Mini Pro: I'm guessing this has something to do with the Input specs --

I have painstakingly walked through nearly every setting, from Scaling to Forced HDMI, to Boost, to Format... and nothing seems to send the signal through from Nerdy. I'm assuming it has something to do with the small output resolution it's trying to send to the ATEM HDMI In port (??)

That's the problem. Any thoughts on a solution? If it just can't do it, I suppose that's fine - I'll have to try another device. I'm kinda new to all this streaming business, so I am assuming I'm just doing something wrong.

Thanks in advance,
Jc (VMG)

PS: Not to blow smoke, but anyone who has seen my films knows, I absolutely *love* NerdSEQ, and my intention is to do some deep dives where I can display the screen fullscreen... thus this effort. If there are any other suggestions how to accomplish this feat, let me know.

I do have the Atem Mini Pro and it works. You got to take care that the NerdSEQ+Video Expander powers on after the Atem is already on. Also another HDMI cable might do the trick.
I will check it when I'm back from superbooth.

Hello! Thank you for replying. I don't know if I mentioned the power-up order, but I have done the following:

  1. Power on ATEM Mini Pro
  2. Plug in BMPCC4K into HDMI In 1
  3. Plug in Video I/O into HDMI In 2
  4. ATEM Mini Pro Webcam out to Mac PC/OBS
  5. ATEM Mini Pro HDMI Out to OSEE4K monitor (for redundancy)
  6. Power on Modular case with NerdSEQ and all expanders
  7. Try various Setup > Video Expander settings to see if I can coax a signal, but nothing.

Black screen on Nerdy ch 2 Sad  I have tried 3 different HDMI cables of varying quality, from AmazonBasics to Monster to monoprice 25' that I successfully use with cameras across the studio.

Have fun at SuperBooth!!! I wish I could attend. There is no hurry here, just hoping to provide as much accurate info for troubleshooting.

WHOA!! It works!! I decided to try setting everything to (what I think are) default values, and the screen popped up on OBS!!

The settings in this screenshot seemed to do the trick. Thank you for confirming ATEM Mini Pro was not the bad guy; the USER was Smile so I did not give up trying.

Thank you also for such an amazing device <3

Oh good to hear. I do use Pal though, but the Atem should be able to handle all I think.
