Up to 4 x sweet 16 / 16n (if in follower mode and each got its own address (I will provide updated 16n firmwares to use a different address)) are possible per I2C Port on the NerdSEQ. So a setup like 2x er301 and 4x 16n is definitely possible!!!
I have a 16n and sweet16 followers but I can't figure out how to change the adress of one of them to use them both with port A and port B. Could you tell me how to do that, and if it's the only thing I have to do, or if it's something else, please? Maybe something in the settings (well I will change one adress in the settings of the nerdseq after that) Hey,
the thing is that you need a firmware which is set to a different address. Depending on which 16n you got you can probably do that in their online tool. I understand that they are different hardware versions so there is no generic file that would work for all.
If you only got these 2 units and nothing else on the I2C bus, then you can connect one to one port and then 16N->NS 1-16 and the other one on the other port to 16N-NS 17-32.
Both should work then while one generates faders 1-16 and the other one 17-32. Hello,
thanks for your answer. So i have a atov 16n faderbank (waiting for their answer if i can change the adress with their help because i couldt find how to do it on the web editor), and a sweetsixteen mk2 by tesseract.
Actually the solution you propose doesn't seem to fit my needs, or maybe I didn't understand something.
I want to be able to control, let's say for instance the ADSR parameters of env#1 of the nerdseq. So far, I could do it with this setting : midi/i2C setup > i2C A mode : NS ->16N 1-16. I thought there would be something like i2C B mode : NS ->16N 17-32 but there isn't.
So I guess with the setting i2C A mode : NS -> 2X 16N 1-32 could work, but I don't know how to do to connect the 2 i2c controllers to only A port.
Do I have to chain them somehow?
And I also tried the settings you mentioned, but then, the multi IO doesn't receive the signal anymore from the faders (no light blinking on the multi IO expander)
If you don't have anything connected then the best is to set the 16n and the S16 to the leader mode.
On the NerdSEQ you set 16N -> NS 1-16 for one port and 16N-> NS 17-32 on the other port. I am sure that will work.
Keep in mind that the 16n / S16 need to detect the 'NerdSEQ' within 10 seconds after their power on, else they stop communicating and will deactivate their I2C ports.
And if you really want them to be a follower, then indeed you need a firmwareupdate for one of these with another address.
If you got the 16n with the LC teensy, then I could probably provide you the firmware. However....having them in leader mode is better if you don't need connect anything else.

About that : "Keep in mind that the 16n / S16 need to detect the 'NerdSEQ' within 10 seconds after their power on, else they stop communicating and will deactivate their I2C ports. " : how do I do that?
I read this "The 16n and derivates (eg F8R) do scan for any I2C gear 10 seconds after its startup if they are set to leader mode. And if it missed that scan then it won't work. It is possible that it didn't scan the Multi-IO if the I2C port on the Multi was not configured for it. In that case you would configure first and then c. Rule to follow: Use 16n -> NS then the 16n got to be in leader mode, Address to 31hex. If the 16n is set to follower mode then the NerdSEQ got to be set to NS -> 16n 1-16, the address is not important for it."
But could you explain "give the 16n a power cycle" please? 16N and S16 are in the same rack as the nerdseq by the way
(I will check if it's LC teensy)
EDIT : Wait, now I need to go to the web editor and make them leaders!

Once it is configured it will always work, because the Multi-IO saves its last state and if it was a follower then it will keep following (and thus react on its address to the 16n).
But if it wasn't set up like this yet then you probably remove the screws pull off the cable and connect it again so it detects.
In general, I think the whole detection and not having then a kind of a reset button with the 16n is a bad concept. It would be much easier if you could set it up in the webinterface what you want to control. That would have caused less headaches (and probably returned units as well)
