Set Pattern Length's in Ticks
#11
Ah, I think we have a different view. I wouldn’t want to change the number of steps explicitly when in this mode when the pattern length is defined by the total number of ticks. I my mind, the number of steps is simply defined by their individual number of ticks added up. As soon as this sum reaches the total number of ticks, this particular step is the last one potentially with less ticks then defined in its groove column. So:

Total ticks = 24

01. 6t sum=6
02. 7t sum=13
03. 9t sum=22
04. 2t sum=24: this groove column cannot be made bigger than 2: the sum is limited to 24
05. 6t sum=30: irrelevant, will never be played.

Limit to the amount of ticks is not possible. The ‚housekeeping check‘ as I call it is related to the patternlength and the amount if ticks in the last playing pattern.
Still the number of ticks in a pattern got to stay the same, but the amount of steps could change. Like a step needs X ticks until getting to the next step. That all to surely keep in sync.

Also functions that rely on the amount of steps wouldn’t work well either (oattern order, euclidean..).
So changing the anount of steps would be the only options to keep everything running but still mess around.
