Rows FX and Probability Question
#1
Hi folks,

I've been experiencing inconsistency with row probability. This has been an issue for some time and every time i come back to Nerdseq work this leaves me scratching my head. It seems to occur for me across a range of contexts. Patterns seem to inherit a low row probability for example from a previous pattern despite the new pattern being set to 100%  probability. I'm now wondering if my expected behavior for FX is wrong!

E.G: I often place PROV Row Probability (say 30%) into an FX column but then place another one at 100% before the end of the bar. Often the second seems to be ignored. Is it possibly that what is happening is that the second FX is ignored based on the 30% probability? Or should i be expecting a row probability to fully update regardless of previous row probability?

Or the following: Is there a hierarchy between the FX columns? If i place a transpose FX on column 2 and then place a PRF 2 (FX Probability row 2) on row three that sets row 2 FX to 50% probability then this doesn't work. It only seems to work if i place it one step earlier.

Basically i would like a way of simply assigning a specific Row or CV/TR/MOD a probability without incurring the Knob behaviour that results in inheritance problems. Is there a best practice here?

Thanks!

Ho, there is no issue or inconsistency here. What I read matches exactly the functionality.

What you should know:
The general order is like this, Patch, FX1,2,3,4, tables, notes, gates. If you put something in FX2 it can't affect FX1 anymore, but It does affect FX3,4 and the rest.
Row probability is special. Of course if you set the row probablility to for example 50% then the chances that the FX plays for the next row probability are also 50% and half the time it won't change it anymore. The same for every other FX probability function.
All intended. Row probability got a special though, it will always be executed if placed on the last FX!
Page 31 in the manual explains this properly.

The knob behaviour is in this case, for a tracker like this, the best thing to do. You really don't want to fill in 64 times a probability setting if you want to keep it for the pattern...plus you will lose one FX for other stuff. And here you can set it on the spot as you want to have it and turn it off again at any time.
PLEASE use the search function if something have been asked or discussed before.

Yes...  i do appreciate the term 'inconsistency' is probably misplaced given that this is by design.
So you are suggesting this:
Lets say i have a pattern 16 rows long with just four entries. I want to have the first row (the down-beat) always play, the fifth row play 30%, and the 8th row contain a beat plays 50% whilst the last beat on row 12 is 20%. I just want to set a probability for each row. I should do this then only with FX row? Otherwise i will experience the issue i am having?

Sorry i missed that line on P.31. Is the general order of Patch, FX1,2,3,4, tables, notes, gates also in the manual?

Many thanks!

00 FX4: PROW 64
04 FX4: PROW 1E
08 FX4: PROW 32
0B FX4: PROW 14
If you want to have the in between steps regulary running then you would add:  04 FX4: PROW 64  for example.

BUT: There is a little pitfall here:

I am not sure if the general order is in the manual, it has been discussed here for sure. I will check that and if not I will add it in the manual, too.
