6-Button Controller Support
#1
Hello and Good Morning -

I know we talked about this before (email), and it wasn't a high priority, but that was 6 months ago and I don't want this to get lost, so I hope it's ok to post my controller wish list here too.  If anyone else has some input, please do.

I've enjoyed using the NerdSEQ with a Sega controller since the early days, but there are some features missing that always make me have to come back to the front panel.  Couple this with the new TV output feature people seem to really want, I think full featured controller support is a little more important than it was (assuming the TV output will be a supported feature).

The selection of which additional function to map to the controller is a tricky one.  I've analyzed my own NerdSEQ workflow and identified the buttons I press the most that are not represented on the Sega gamepad in it's current implementation.

'Delete' is by far my most used.  After that, my second most used buttons are 'Sequencer' and 'Pattern' as I flip back and forth through the creation of a track.

I'd also like to see the Delete key as the most accessible, so in the end, I came up with the following as the layout I'd like to see for additional controller buttons.

X : Sequencer
Y : Pattern
Z : Delete

Through shift, I believe we could almost automatically gain access to 'Mark', 'Copy' and 'Patch' through these same buttons, so it ends up being much closer to feature complete.

Of course, in those same emails, we had discussed the possibility of completely customizable button layouts (by the user, through settings menu), and this would be of course be the best solution, but adds a lot to your workload.

What does everyone else think?  Are these the functions you'd like to see represented on a 6-Button controller?  Are there even a lot of other controller users out there?  I'm certainly curious to know.

Thanks very much for the time,

It'll be user-customizable for sure, but still on my 2do list, but also still behind some more important stuff.
PLEASE use the search function if something have been asked or discussed before.
Every (unnessesary) forum support means less time to develop! But of course, i am here to help!  Smile

No worries. Knowing all the features you've talked about previously, I'm sure that's a long list. No rush. Just didn't want it to get lost.

Thanks again.

The suggestions are excellent.   Ability to customize button layouts would be supreme and support for the 6-button controller.  There's probably not a lot of controller users out there at the moment due to availability.  I imagine once the Input/Output Expander is re-stocked there will be more inquires for the features you mention including myself when I'm able to order one!

Actually, most of the current NerdSEQ owners have the Midi/IO expander, so i guess they are many potentially controller users Smile

The bad news is, that i have to return all black io-expander frontpanels to the manufacturer because they were bad again. Which means one can order only grey io-expanders currently. But to compensate this, i offer in the black bundle to send the io-expander with a grey panel in the first place and when i receive the new black frontpanels that i send the black panels afterwards at my cost. So people can get started.

To get back on topic, it is on my list and wil be implemented in one of the next releases for sure. But still there is more important stuff and there is nothing you can't do right now without the extra sega button support, it is just a bit less comfortable.

Didn't know most users purchased the bundle!  Smile  Lucky for me I ordered the grey NerdSEQ so waiting for the grey io-expander.  Thanks for the update status.
