starting an LFO from the FX column CV16
#1
On an empty project I assigned track 1 to the CV16, and added "ST A" "0004" to FX column 1, which should start an LFO on the CV1 output after I press Start, but it doesn't.  If I press Patch twice I can see that LFO 1 has a moderate speed and amplitude.  Is LFO 1 the target of "ST A"?

"ST A" is a command to control any of the 8 Modulator (to my understanding "ST A"..."ST H" are essentially the same commands - which modulator is doing what on which output is completely determined by the parameter of that command, i.e. "ST A" "0004" and "ST H" "0004" are essentially the same commands).

The Modulator could be one of several different types of envelopes or an LFO. By giving the parameter "0004" you indeed do start/continue the LFO of Modulator 1 on CV 1 of this CV16 NSA.

With "SLFO" you could set the various attributes (Speed, Waveshape, Amplitude) of the chosen LFO.

What do you mean by "moderate speed and amplitude"?
I haven't used these LFOs in a while but I recall their settings where slightly different from what I had been expecting. In particular I had struggled to consistently determine or even align the exact speed and frequency of the LFOs w/r to the BPM of my track.

I seem to recall Thomas had done some work on the LFOs and I have revisiting them on my TODO list.

Try setting the parameters to extreme values and see what they are doing. They used to work Smile

To explicitly answer your final question:
LFO1 on CV1 is the result of "ST A" "0004". "ST A" "0104" would by LFO1 on CV2 and "ST A" "0314" would be LFO2 on CV4.
[Strictly speaking it is not "LFO1 on..." but "Modulator 1 acting as LFO on..."]

Kind regards,
Michael

"moderate speed and amplitude" means that I checked to be sure the LFO didn't have zero amplitude or a very low frequency.  When I connect an oscilloscope to a CV16 jack and issue the start command, nothing happens, on any of the jacks.  I'm probably missing some small step, but I can't figure out what it is.

Yes, no relation to the BPM with CV16 LFO's (yet).
For the rest indeed you can use the FX commands as explained to change the LFO settings but you can change the settings also in the track setup.

Depending on your NerdSEQ version you might have to change all the settings once to get them to a usable value ( like change the amp just by 1). That is because the CV16 modulators are not initialized if not used yet for a new project or after power on (since the tracks are assigned later on). It is being saved with your project though, just the initialisation is not as expected. But that is for older versions but might be your issue.

I'm have 2.01 A.  I started a new project, assigned CV16 to track 1, and used the "ST A" "0004" command in FX 1, then I switched to the values screen and changed the LFO 1 settings.  Still nothing on the CV16 output.  "ST A" "0004" doesn't set the LFO number though.  Which LFO is it using?

ST A 0004 is indeed not working as you didn't choose a modulator then.
ST A 0014 would choose Modulator 1 with CV 1
ST A 0024 would choose Modulator 2 with CV 1
etc...
That would definitely work. ( Manual Page 63 )

YES!  That's it!  Thank you so much for the quick reply.

Arrgh...the Modulator # is 1-based !?!

Could this be changed to 0-based like at most other places as well?
I understand that change would break old settings...but not setting a Modulator is (arguably) an error anyway.

Kind regards,
Michael
