Dualchord Expander
#31

I own the Nerdseq + CV16 + Trigger16 + Multi IO (and I thank you every day for this beauty)
I was wondering if there's a maximum number of expander modules that can be connected to the Nerdseq's NSA cable?
Secondly, during Black Friday (I admit, I was just trying to get the 25% discount, I'm ashamed...), I've been considering buying a Dual Chord from every angle.
After reading so much about the Dual Chord, I'm wondering why you made an additional module?
What was the technical or commercial constraint that prevented you from simply connecting it to outputs 7 and 8 (samples) and the trigger outputs to trigger 16?

You can connect up to 4 NSA and an additional Midi Expander.

The dualchord is running 32 waveforms at the same time with 16 bit precision and the additional features. The NerdSEQ audio outputs got a lower precision (12 bit) and are more aliasing with high frequencies with only 2 possible oscillators per output. It would use too much processing time to implement the same set of features which would result in less room for all the other cool things like for example the mappings, envelopes.... All these things wouldn't be implemented if I would have pushed the CPU already to it's limits in an early stage.
I made the Dualchord mainly because I was busy with the 6CV2Trig module to support triple oscillators for nice chords. And I thought why not directly integrate the oscillators as well. That turned out to be then 4 notes (2 times) instead of 3 because it is much nicer and an abandoned 6CV2Trig. For that I added more featured in the CV16 and so with the T16 and CV16 the 6CV2Trig was not needed anymore. And the dualchord sounded directly nice.
They are so many things that were never planned in the first place and everything grew into what it is now.

Instead of FM how about the possibility to add Sync of the oscillators with hard- or even soft-Sync?
For this there would still be good use for the note pitch of the synched oscillators and it would add a palette of sounds?

I’m having difficulty controlling the Dualchord with a MIDI keyboard. I’ve got a Nerdseq with the MIDI TRS expander, and the DualChord (running firmware v1.2) on NSA4. In the test I’m running, there is a DualChord track on Track 4 of the sequence. I’m using an Arturia Keystep mk2 into the MIDI expander, set to channel 1.

In the MIDI/I2C setup, I can set the MIDI channel 1 destination to Track 4 input. In this case I seem to get a monophonic response.

In Mapping, I’ve tried this:
MIDI->TC 1->NOTE > DUAL->NSA4->NOT1
MIDI->TC 1->GATE > DUAL->NSA4->OOF1
MIDI->TC 1->NOTE > DUAL->NSA4->NOT2
MIDI->TC 1->GATE > DUAL->NSA4->OOF2
MIDI->TC 1->NOTE > DUAL->NSA4->NOT3
MIDI->TC 1->GATE > DUAL->NSA4->OOF3
MIDI->TC 1->NOTE > DUAL->NSA4->NOT4
MIDI->TC 1->GATE > DUAL->NSA4->OOF4

This seems to produce a weird kind of 3 voice polyphony the goes to 1 voice when the 4th key is played.
It does not simply play 4 notes lines if hoped it would.

I also haven’t figured out how to use a MIDI controller to fire the Dualchord’s trigger outputs.

Full confession: I’ve only just started figuring out the possibilities of mapping. MIDI is a mystery to me and I am certain I’m doing this wrong. If there is documentation of this someplace I missed, please just point me in the right direction. Thanks so much.

Don’t use the mappings. The routing in the midi/i2c setup is fine.
But you need to set up how many voices (and how) you want to use in the track setup of track 4. (Press patch twice)

As for more info check the dualchord track setup part and the pattern part of it.

Thank you so much! I’m very grateful.

(I promise I really did search for info about this first!)
