LFOs - offset

I only get an entire LFO cycle (ie the positive and negative parts) if the offset is set to the maximum; 2047

If the offset is set to 0, i only get the positive part of the LFO (the negative part sliced off)

Is this deliberate? A bug? It seems quite strange.

Thats how it suppose to be.

Voltages: Your CV output generates as voltage between 0 and 10 Volt.
LFO: Generate voltages between -5 and + 5 Volt. 
Range: F7  (full range)

CV as destination is adding the LFO values to the CV output.
So CV = 0, LFO is on the negative wave, then the result stays at 0 since the outputs are only 0..10 volts and can't be negative (being the offet switch to the position, of course -5 if the offset switch is on the left).
If the LFO wave is on it's highest then the voltage is 5 Volt  (CV=0V, LFO=5V, added together 5 V)

If you set the offset of the LFO to max, then the LFO voltage (or lets say value, because it can be used for other things than voltages) is 5Volt at it's middle point, lowest wave value is 0 and highest wave value is +10V.

So all makes sense, the LFO is adding (and subtracting if negative) while the values can't be lower than 0.

Play a note on C-5 on the CV output and use the LFO on it without offset!!. Then your note will go of course up and down this 5 Volt.

hm, i am having a hard time to understand this. if the offset is zero half of the lfo is just useless. no matter the position of the cv offset switch. this behaviour doesn't mirror the display of the lfo position in the automate screen. adding an external -5 offset via another module doesn't really work, since the output still only gives half of the lfo.

from my logic the output should give negative voltage if the lfo is left of the middle marker and positive voltage if it is right. so, depending on where the switch is between -5...5V or between 0...10V

i simply can' wrap my head around the current behaviour and the description above. or is there a setting somewhere, that i missed?

The offset switch is only a hardware switch that adds 5 volt (or not). The range is always 10 volts.

The Automators are 'bipolar' by itself and please understand if you use the CV output as destination then it is being added to the current CV voltage generated by notes or pitches.
If this CV output is at -5 Volt (assuming the offset switch is on the left side) then the signal can't go lower than - 5 volt. The Automator LFO is adding it's current result to this CV. If the LFO is on it's negative phase then it is subtracting of course but since it can't go lower than -5 volt it will stay there and practically clips off your negative LFO phase. (the same if you would have the switch to the right then it would clip at 0 volt instead)
If the LFO is on its positive phase then it adds to the -5 volt (can go up to 0 volt then = half the possible CV range) or if the switch is on the right then it can go up to 5 volt.

So to be able to get the full wave you got to set the CV output to 0 volt (or 5 Volt switch right) (Note C-5 / Pitch 800) and then the automator LFO will swing around that 0 volt positive and negative within the selected LFO amplitude.

The Automate LFO screen doesn't know anything about what is coming out of the CV output (and thus nothing about the Offset switch either). It just knows it's own LFO (which is what you see on the screen). And it is very flexible and covers all use-cases from a simple vibrato around the note up to a full -5/+5V LFO swing. But it all depends on being set up well.

sorry, i ment the mod output. so the same counts there. the mod setting in the pattern needs to be seet to 800. now i got it Big Grin thanks for saving my weekend. have a nice one, too
