Not sure I understand that correctly.
My setup is:
NerdSEQ -> NerdSEQ 2hp MIDI Out -> NerdSEQ TRS-A to 5-pin MIDI -> MIDI cable -> Novation Adaptor -> LP MIDI In
and
LP MIDI Out -> Novation Adaptor -> MIDI cable -> NerdSEQ TRS-A from 5-pin MIDI -> NerdSEQ 2hp MIDI In -> NerdSEQ

Should that work or do I have to replace components (e.g. the Novation Adaptor)?

At first glance it does not work completely though the NerdSEQ occasionally seems to react to wild pushing buttons on the LP.

Yes that should work.
Maybe a setting in the launchpad. Also be sure you don't use midi channel 1 in any other situation.
