programing sequencer stop/start

I have a pattern that is running random hop commands (SPFX00C) so it is jumping around the pattern.   This pattern is playing along with other normal looping sync'd patterns.  When I want to get out of the row with the random hop pattern and go to another row what I do is Shift Stop then Shift Start right on the beat.  So Shift Stop on the last eighth note of the bar and Shift Start on the 1.  Works great, but just as an exercise  I've been trying to do this with commands.  It's not something I need, I just wanted to see if it could be done.    I'm sure there is a way but I have not been able to figure it out.  Any ideas?
