Mark in all directions

Currently when marking a selection for copying and pasting, it is only possible to make a selection to the right and downward from the cursor point.

Would it be possible to also allow making a selection to the left and upward from the cursor? Basically I would like to be able to draw a box in any direction from the cursor point.
