Release Candidate Firmware V1.24 RC12
#1
Some weeks have been gone and as usual I am working on new releases and mainly on a new hardware release. But before the hardware there will be a release candidate for the new coming version again. It adds some fixes and some new functions of course.

As usual, this is a release candidate. Not intended for productive use as i can't guarantee any unexpected side effects. Also saved projects will guaranteed work for the release version but are not backwards compatible to 1.23 or earlier. So be aware to backup your projects first!!!
But with installing it and trying it out/testing you help getting the version ready for stable use.

Please report any issues with that only in this thread as this is not a stable version. And if possible try the same with the lastest stable version (V1.23A) to be sure this is not related to this release candidate but has been there before.

And you can always go back to the stable versions in case of any issues.

Here are the most important changes:

- Enhanced the regular random FX functions (Random next FX). For these I added possible ranges of the randomization. 16 ranges from 0 - 100% can be defined and selected in an own screen (press OK on the random values to get to the screen). Also beside the random next FX, the random function can be enabled for FX columns, so it stays on and all FX values are being randomized within the ranges. This can be set also in the track setup screens. Random functions have been also added for the Sample tracks now.
- Overrule FX values such as from random, automators and others are now scaled to the real function values. So for example if you have an envelope FX which can be 4 digits and the first 2 digits select the envelope number and attack, then only the last 2 digits are overruled within it's min/max values.

- Added Random Value to Modular Note and MOD of the modular track. These can be randomized now also by one of the selected ranges. (toggle with Shift+OK till you reach R x or RNx. R x selects a random pitch and RNx selects a random note within the selected range.
- Performance improvements if many functions are running at the same time
- Added view of patternlength on sequencerscreen
- Added Skip playing FX when editing. So the FX you are busy with is being skipped for playing until you leave the FX column again. (Can be enabled/disabled in the Setup screen). Works with FX from patterns and tables.
- Added FX selector (FX Selekta)  which opens a FX list with all effects for this tracktype. (press OK on the Fx command column)
- Fix for clock divider/multipliers. If a track was stopped and started later it syncs well with the others.
- Added force clock function so the set clock FX can be forced immediately (if first digit it set to 1) and not only after the pattern is ready. Works now also with applying a new clock in the first row directly.
- Added ADD/SUB/MUL/DIV FX functions. This adds, subtracts, multiplies or divides with a value to the last played FX and plays the FX again. This can be with and without overflow. For example, if the last playing FX2 was MOD 005. The command with ADD 040 to FX2 adds then the 40 to the 005 and a new MOD plays with 045. Another add would play a 085 etc... Same for Mul, also last was MOD 005, now Multiply with 2 and the result is 10(A) which is being played...go on and you get an exponential curve. Multiplies and divisions have a 0.1 digit resolution. Funny to add for a sample offset to get cool timestreched samples (use the ADD in tables to have it run faster).
- Added Midi column overrule channels for note columns 2,3,4. A midi track has 4 columns and each column can sequence it's own midi channel now (yes up to 4 midi-synthesizers/drumsynths sequenced from one track). The polyphonic settings for the midi channels stay for columns that are not overruled by another channel.
- Updated and fixed sega gamepad readout which should work now for most compatible gamepads with all buttons. I can't guarantee for all clones, but all that I could get my hands on work fine now.
- Fixed midi problem with channel aftertouch input
- Added 11 point calibration and precision for CV/MOD outputs. If you got a good precise voltmeter (and I'm not talking about the 50 euro multimeters or in-rack) you can set more calibration points now for a slightly more precise calibration. There is no new calibration needed, it all converts automatically to stay as it was. The same added for the CV16 expander (firmware for that one following).

And as usual many fixes and improvements 'under the hood'...

UPDATE RC3:
- fixed midi preview issue if overrule channels are used
- fixed table issue if table source is the FX Tick and if it is on the same row
- added midi overrule visibility on midi channels

UPDATE RC4:
- finished new ratcheting and random functions for the local triggers. Values in the trigger column bigger than E0 got a special function now for even and odd ratcheting, random triggers, random 'ratches', random gates based on the random ranges.

UPDATE RC5:
- fixed that table issue introduced with the last RC's again
- updated ratch functions so they work also well if externally clocked

UPDATE RC6:
- fixed ugly dot below font 1
- slight timing update so the 8bitDO sega controller will work well
- visual update for the table steps
- fx selector visual glitch when recording fix
- updated the launchpad functions so mini and MK2 would work well again
- added euclidean features and trigger shifting with the launchpad

UPDATE RC8
- fixed Launchpad Pro grid editing
- updated graphical part for trigger16 screen launchpad view
- added SPFX sync to mainclock command
- fixed visual glitch in CV16 setup screen

UPDATE RC9
- refactoring of the statusbar view. Added now all missing details to the stausbar in the patternscreens, table and patch screen and some other little beauty fixes

UPDATE RC10
- changed toggle note value (SHIFT+OK) behaviour. The originial value is now also selecteable with this
- fixed incomplete undo functionality for some positions
- fixed possible problem with changing notes
- added toggle function on table (SHIFT+DELETE). Toggles between -- and **

UPDATE RC11
- changed naming of midi CC presets to control presets
- added program change to midi control presets ( = program change from FX + channels possible)
- fixed delayed effect for bitcrush, distortion and wavefolder from FX
- added random midi velocity from ranges
- fixed text glitch in automators
- fixed sample playing/gating through CV inputs
- added sample triggering through CV inputs

UPDATE RC12
- updated the LFO ranges so it allows finer amplitudes
- added scrolling for sample patterns
- table edit fix so the current table doesn't switch to another while editing
- added random notes for CV16, Midi and Samples
- added notes in the CV and MOD FX for a modular track (also for tables and patches)
- fixed some wrong chords
- minor fixes

Download the release candidate below, follow the firmware update rules and if you get stuck there and it doesn't work, read the many threads about it and it will be fine!! Updating always works!

Enjoy!

This list of changes looks fantastic, Thomas. I’d mention a stand-out or two but it’s too hard to pick, which is a great problem to have!

This is amazing! I love the new probability functions.

Even though I already felt pretty confident with the FX, i LOVE the FX Selekta! Feels so nice to have all the FX on a page; I will use this a LOT!

Thanks for this!!

edit - found a bug in tables i think - i'll put it in the bug report section

Quote:In the new 1.24 RC, something isn't quite right with clocking table ticks with the SPFX command

If I have SPFX011 clocking the table, it seems to ignore the first tick, sort of.

If there's three SPFX011 commands in a pattern, it only ever gets to the second tick of the table. And *i think* it plays the first row of the table twice.

Also, strangely, the first play of the pattern is different from the subsequent plays.

I can't quite work out exactly what is happening, but it's not quite right!

I moved the report here as this is not a release version. I will check it, but also did you have the same issue with earlier versions? I think I didn't touch the table handling at all.

I’ve finally set up my MIDI a bit more on the new beta-firmware.  Now I’m sequencing a pair of mother 32’s, as well as sequence two pads chromatically on the bitbox, all on one MIDI track (it’s been amazing to be able to overrule the MIDI channel!).

When I stop my sequence and try to noodle out another using my Arturia Keystep or the keyboard on the Mother 32 itself, it plays the desired note but immediately after, it repeats the last note that was played on the pattern sequence.  I’ve tried to Kill the note and use the note off [ ] but this doesn’t make any difference.

I’m sure it’s something obvious, but I don’t understand.  Thanks for any advice!

I moved this here since it is related only to the beta release.
I'm going to play around with this a bit more, but no one else of the betatesting mentioned this issue yet. Do you have this also with the regular version and only one midi synth connected? And what is the setting of the midi recording in the track setup?

Hi Thomas, I didn’t have my Moog synths connected before this.  I had tried CV, but not MIDI.  I’ve rerouted my whole setup as of yesterday and am using a iConnectivity MIDIConnect, so have a lot of new MIDI connections as I’m trying a fully DAW-less setup for the first time, incorporating pedals and such as well.

In terms of the track setup, I have MIDI Channel 1-8, set up as Track Record 1-8, respectively.  Track 6 is a MIDI track and I can choose MIDI Channel 6 on my Arturia Keystep and depending on what I choose on the “Record Columns” in the individual track setup, I can use the Keystep to play the different notes on the MIDI track, that in term go to a couple of Bitbox pads played chromatically (MIDI channel 7 and 8) , and then the Mother 32 which is listening on MIDI channel 1 (and which is the overrule for column 2 - MIDI channel 1).

I feel like it recording fine for the first sequence I recorded into a pattern.  But perhaps I didn’t notice, as I had it all running through pedals and a Hologram Electronics Microcosm.  Now, when I have everything off except for the Moog, it just plays the note I play and then a second note which is the last note played in the NERDSEQ sequence.  I can change the second note by stopping in different places in the pattern.

Sorry, not sure if that is relevant info or not, just trying to be thorough and still wrapping my head around all this!

That sounds quite complex for me right now. Can you reduce this to the one issue (like turning all midi channels off which are not related) and save the project, add it here and explain what i need to do to get the same result?
